Based on Thornton Wilder’s novel, five people are crossing the bridge at San Luis Rey at noon on July 20th, 1714 when it breaks and all five fall to their deaths. Brother Juniper (Gasbriel Byrne) is put to trial for heresy when he tries to find out scientifically if it was an act of God that the victims died.
