By the time of "spaghetti" westerns, the genre was already well into decline. It is hard to be sure of exactly why though the style of "the Man With No Name" trilogy is certainly distinct and a late statement on the cinematic type.

I dislike it, always have since I first saw these movies over 40 years ago. The Spanish scenery lends a sense of aridity, the dialog is limited and tells less of story than personality. The meanings and messages are mainly limited, here greed and double-crosses. The idea of the Civil War extending into the desert is odd and un-needed.

With limited budgets, Leone concentrates on long camera angles and small parables, often with violence that says more about twisted wish-fullfillment than anything about what made the American west what it was. Relativism and westerns are a poor mix to my mind, though fans likely disagree.

One of my all-time favourite movies, I have seen this over a dozen times! A long, but nevertheless enthralling film, with a brilliant storyline, and great acting, actors and action. Ennio Morricone did himself proud with the stunning...

This movie sets the gold standard for the genre. An absolutely 'must-see' film.

The Good,the Bad, and the Ugly is without a doubt the best movie of the series and not to mention the entire genre. It has a lot of action, a great storyline, and the best theme song any movie could ever dream of having.

westerns are not one of my favorite genres, but this one is surely one of the best of its kind
