Before I saw this movie I was hearing all these reviews saying it's 2006's movie of the year, even the toughest critics agreed. This normally means two things: its A) Another Brokeback Mountain, or B) Another History Of Violence. Luckily for all of us it's neither. Director Alfonso Cuarón did an amazing job with the story and characters and also included what I'm going to call the coolest battle scene I've seen since Saving Private Ryan. The movie itself might seem slow to those aren't immediately interested but by the end almost everyone who's seen have enjoyed it as a whole. I myself loved it and chalk up another for for movie of the year ('06)

Children Of Men was something fresh, something different. The acting from Owen and Caine stands out in this movie. The others overact too many times. I think the weakest thing about this movie is te script, it´s quality goes up and down. The best part is the directing from Cuaron, amazingly done with all the long scenes, it reminds me off some of the scenes in "Hard Boiled" (directed by John Woo). Allso the cinematagrophy is great. I wouldn´t say it should have been nominated last year for best movie, but the directing should have won IMO, instead it wasn´t even nominated.

I seriously cannot believe I never got the chance to see Children of Men yet. It's definitely in the top ten of 2006, hell, maybe even in the top spot. It's so expertly crafted it gives even Pan's Labyrinth a run for it's money. The cast in this movie is amazing, especially Clive Owen. The screenplay for this film is simply amazing. It's filled with twists and turns that actually surprise you. When Julian died early on in the movie, I was actually shocked. There's a sense of hopelessness that pervades every orifice of this film. The camerawork is among the best in the industry today. If you don't believe me, just watch the Uprising scene. It's a truly epic scene filmed almost entirely in one take. No quick cuts or anything.

You don't know what you're missing if you haven't seen this yet. This movie is no less than PERFECT! An amazing plot, great cast and obviously the creative Alfonso Cuaron! Definitely on my all time favorites list!

Children of Men, Alfonso Cuarón's sci-fi/thriller starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine plunges us into the world of 2027. Where terrorism, corruption, disease and infertility (most primary) plague the world with fascist Britain as what seems to be the only functioning government in the world. Every dystopian and apocalyptic view ties chillingly, reasonably and brilliantly into 2006.
Clive Owen's character, Theo, is asked to help the notorious terrorist group "The Fishes" escort the first woman pregnant in 18 years (in secrecy) to a rumored group of scientists working on curing infertility: the Human Project.
Clive Owen does a great job and Caine's performance is out of this world. And while the plot/characters are interesting nothing much happens; the story is largely carried by creative real-world ties and positive themes. Themes of hope, faith, love, sacrifice, and every other virtue that keeps the world turning. We also see the pattern of how whoever the baby comes across either becomes a better person or more corrupt, and how it is the only thing left that can make everyone stop fighting.
Cuarón's directive style is enough to keep the movie treading along anyway (it was nominated for Cinematography). He delivers amazingly long takes in a beautiful visual style, and clearly represents Theo's change from a careless nobody just watching the world fall to a person believing in the possibility of change and resurrection.

I imagine the book was brilliant and the actors were pretty good too. I love the idea and I loved the musical references (especially the giant pigs floating in front of Battersea Power Station). I even wanted this to be one of my favourite films...

Based on the P.D. James novel of the same name, "Children of Men" very vividly portrays a dystopia set 20 years in the future, in which the world has been torn by terrorism, social unrest, and political uprising, all stemming from a mysterious state of infertility that has threatened to send the human race straight into extinction.

Director Alfonso Cuarón makes a name for himself with this one, a film with amazing cinematography that simply dazzles with a flawless mix of thrilling story-telling, heart-pounding action, and gut-wrenching drama, sprinkled with a helping of religious and political themes. Hailed by critics accordingly, the film did not fail to gain its share of Academy Award nominations. In a future where England's is the only funtional government that has still maintained some order and peace, Clive Owen plays Theo Faron, a former political activist who finds himself caught in a war between the English government and the "Fishes," a group of activists (labeled as "terrorists" by the government) fighting for the rights of illegal immigrants, known as "fugees," fugitives to the government, and led by Julian Taylor (Julianne Moore), Faron's estranged wife.

Faron becomes the primary protector of Kee (Claire-Hope **** a young African fugitive who has, miraculously enough, become the first woman who has been with child in nearly two decades. Only by getting Kee and her baby safely to the Human Project, a secret group of researchers working to solve the mystery of the aforementioned infertility, can the future of mankind be secured. However, with the involvement of the English military, as well as the revelation of the Fishes' true intentions, to use the baby for their own political gain, and a betrayal resulting in the death of Moore's character (with plenty more on-screen deaths to follow), Faron becomes the one person that Kee can trust, as he desperately tries to keep her and her unborn child safe. The film, although set in the near future, paints a world that is no longer one that people would recognize, where despair and hopelessness have come to be accepted in a society that is barely functional. Death and suffering has become the norm in a world where the days of the human race have already been numbered. And yet, one unborn baby may hold the key to preserving mankind and restoring peace and order to a world now completely without. The DVD release includes several worthwhile extras, including a documentary by Cuarón which explores even deeper the film's religious and political themes. There is also a vivid look at the production and designing of the "futuristic world" in which the film takes place, as well as interviews with the cast, a look at the car chase and action scenes, and of course, a handful of deleted scenes.
