A murder is committed by a corrupt businessman. The only witness to this murder is the girlfriend of another businessman with close connections to the Chinese government. A bodyguard, named John Chang (played by Jet Li) is sent out from Beijing to help two police officers in Hong Kong protect the witness. During this period a romantic relationship starts to build up between the bodyguard and the girlfriend.
