Definitely one of the hardest films to rate I've ever seen. The visuals of the director's cut are flat-out amazing, the performances are good, specially by Robert Duvall and the story is good... the problem is that thje film is sometimes too bleak, even for me and I feel with claustrophobia, on the other hand, that's the point, that's the world where the characters are, they're in a world with no soul, with no emotion, with no hope,they're total and completely alone and they realize it. That's the precise feeling the film gives you and that's it's triumph.
Ultimately THX is a film that showed the promise George Lucas had, a promise of a great storyteller and a great filmmaker that sadly was not completely fullfilled, a director that got stuck in a single project (Star Wars), a project, that while it was not bad at all, I'll admit it was a great project, he gives me the feeling he could have done much, much more...
