Ernest is the janitor at a bank, looking to get promoted, but with little chance with slipping up around his boss, Mister Pendel Smith. When Ernest is selected for jury duty, it's for a criminal, the inmate of "Mister Nash", Ernest's evil double. While taking a short recess from court, the real Ernest is conked out by an inmate and Nash switches places with him. While Ernest is scheduled for death row, Nash plans to blow up the safe and rob the bank. Ernest has to bust out of jail before his execution to save his job, his dog, his girlfriend, his friends Bobby and Chuck, and the bank itself.
