THE PIANIST is the emotionally devastating true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Jewish pianist in Poland caught up in the horrors of World War II. The Nazis invade Poland, confine the Jews to ghettos then ship them off to concentration camps. This has to be one of the most honest films about the holocaust. The film is amazingly well done and director Roman Polanski delivers the epic journey of a man who is transformed by a series of events from an well-dressed, highly cultured musician to a scavenging, hollow shell of a human being in a very thoughtful, skillful way.

This an excellent look at the Holocaust through a Jewish man's eyes, but I can see how the violence could be upsetting to some viewers. The violence is heartbreaking and graphic with showing the widespread killing, beating and burning of Jews and others, which can unbearable to watch at times. It's still a very touching and poignant movie and a film that should be seen by everyone.

I remember being surprised when Adrien Brody won the Oscar for Best Actor for this film because I had not heard of the film at that time. I need not have been concerned though. This film is an absolute masterpiece and Brody's performance is absolute moving and superb. This film is the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman's struggle to survive and escape persecution at the hands of the Nazi invaders in Warsaw. This film is epic and the story remains important today. Make sure you see it.

The Pianist Leaves no-one untouched. Roman Polonski´s masterpiece is one ofthe best in the genre and can bee seen as a modern classic. The directing by Polonski is superb. You can tell he knows what it was like during the time and some shots are stunning. There is for example one scene after he escapes from the train and walks on the street filled with dead bodies, it´s simply amazing, so as you understand the cinematagrophy is superb as well. The acting is allso very very good. The one that sticks out most is of cource Adrien Brodys oscar winning performance as Wladyslaw Szpilman, The succesful Pianist who is forced to survive in a town where the nazi´s have taken over. The script is well written as well, Polonski has as I said probably taken a lot of scenes from his own experience in the war. The Pianist is probably the most realistic version of the wart that i´ve seen. Polonski unlike other dictors shows that there where no heroes in the war. And the people that survived was simply lucky. The Pianist is a realistic, brutal, and touching story that you just have to see.
