Three men who love the same woman with a lot of twists and turns at the end. They don't make comedy films with romance like this anymore.

This is absolutely my favorite movie of all time, notable for its great characters and super smart and shining dialog. The issues squawked over by Stewart and Hepburn still ring true today - the difference in this movie is that the characters say smart things rather than hurling simple-minded insults. It's probably true that the dialog was no more realistic in the 1940s than today, but it identified big questions and gave people something to shoot for (if only in their minds).

It might actually be interesting if society pages still cared about the whys of "upper crust" marriages rather than simply trying to squeeze off photos of celebrities in swim suits. I've never seen a restless Jimmmy Stewart used better. At the same time, Cary Grant is employed well in this movie, almost as the sage that bides his time without over-dominating the screen time.

"The Philadelphia Story" has writing and characters that have never been equaled.
