Identity, directed by James Mangold, stars 11 different actors, (John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, Jake Busey, John Hawes, Clea DuVall, William Lee Scott, John C. McGinley, Leila Kenzle, Bret Loehr, and Rebecca De Mornay) as 11 different people each involved in a strange murder mystery. Almost each character is coincidentally intertwined with one another, as all 11 show up at the same desolate Nevada motel in the middle of nowhere during a heavy thunderstorm. There, they each start to fall prey to a murderer they don't even see or know of. The whole film seemed like a who-done-it type of movie, and the plotline was great, until about the 3rd Act, where it started to get a little bit rocky. Some scenes were chilling at times, and the atmosphere and feeling the film gave me fell in perfectly with the rest of the movie. The blood was perfect, and not too over the top. Character development was one of the movie's stronger parts, as nearly each one held a secret. Also near the ending was a giant twist that really hit me out of the blue, even though it was a little confusing, it ended up coming back to me, and figuring it out, later on after watching this. Overall a clever and sometimes eerie murder mystery with a big twist, that's entertaining for the mystery or horror fan in you.

This movie was actually the number one movie in America for a while, so I was hoping it would be good. When all is said and done, though, there really isn't much here. When ten strangers are all stranded together in a small motel because of a bad rain storm, people start dying. At first this film seems like just another in an all too long line of horror slasher flicks, but when the convict-in-transit who was the suspect dies, things take a turn and you are left trying to put the pieces together and solve the mystery. It is revealed that all of these strangers have something in common the is directly connected to why they are stranded together. It's something you'll never guess.
After the big secret is revealed, however, the flick does in fact turn into a clone of a dozen other slasher movies you've seen before. There is a surprise ending, though.
To sum up, the first time you see it, Identity is a bit intriguing as you struggle to figure out why everybody is dying. There are a few good moments that really make you jump and a couple creative deaths. After you've seen it and you know what's going on, there really is no reason to see it again. The suspense and mystery is gone. Don't pay for it. See a cheap matinee if you must or wait for rental.

What's good about Identity is that it takes this aspect and gives it it's own flavour. Close to the end of the movie I was really surprised of the reason behind the characters, and who the killer actually was.
