Movie was funny and i thought hugh jackman played it pretty well. Beckinsale's accent kind of drove me nuts but i thought the movie had a somewhat humorous feel

This is a hard one to call. I love the action, the diolog is amusing along with the bulk of the story but there is just somthing ultamatly missing. Yes the CG was mildly lacking in places, but ultamatly they keep a steady feal to the entire film. As for what it's lacking, it's just anything realy memerable in the end. Even now I can't realy think of anything about it that realy stands out.

In the end it's your adverage movie, entertaining as your watching, but nothing you havn't seen before.

Okay, let's get his movie straight so as not to have any confusion. Van Helsing is straight up a CGI filled, monster battling, action adventure romp with Hugh Jackman. You won't find a great script, or great acting from the secondary characters (Kate Beckinsale uggghh... why oh why?), but what you will find is a fun popcorn film. Just so as we're clear, the special-effects are top notch, you can tell that's where the money went. Some scene I admit were a bit tedious after a while (the fight in the village with the vampire women) and some parts of the storylines are dull (the whole werewolf being Anna's brother is inept). Hugh Jackman however provides a fun character reminiscent of many swashbuckling action heroes. It's disappointing that the film didn't do as well as it did because a sequel would have been cool. For all it's shortcomings, bloated script, annoying villains (Igor I'm looking at you), Van Helsing provides a good does of lighthearted fun that most of us crave.

Straight off success from the X-Men films, Hugh Jackman hits it off as Van Helsing, the famous vampire hunter. The movie starts out with Dr. Frankenstein and creating the Frankenstein monster for Dracula for a purpose unknown at the time which ends horribly wrong. Turn to present day, and Van Helsing is called upon to travel to Transylvania to save the last remaining Valerious family member. In the course, Van Helsing learns Dracula's mission, in creating offspring, and ultimately must bring him down. Van Helsing is a good fun action film, but fails with the story and also logically. Plot wise, it never really explains why the werewolves are forced to follow Dracula, and there are a couple more. Logically, it rains in the coldest place on Earth, there are two full moons in two days, among a couple others. Jackman, Beckinsale, and David Wenham do a good job, but the acting overall is about average.

Van Helsing is, at its best, a decent action movie with some elements of horror. It does fail in terms of plot, but it you're looking for a good movie and don't care about the story, then you'll enjoy Van Helsing. Otherwise, you might want to check out something else.

I walked out of this movie about three quarters the way through and asked for my money back, I didn't get it. This was only the second time I've walked out of a move, the first being Battlefield Earth. Here I thought it was the worst movie ever, now I might have to change my mind.
The story was terrible, the special effects even worst and unbelievable. The guy who played Dracula needs to go back to acting class. Hugh Jackman needs to stick to playing Wolverine, and Kate Beckinsale needs to continue to play a vitually nude vampire in the Underworld movies.

Did I Really Spend 8 Dollars To See This In The Theater?

I'm not known for long movie reviews unless I REALLY like a film, so let's cut to the chase:

Van Helsing is yet one more remake of the classic Frankenstein's monster meets Dracula story.

The movie in a few words:

Poor screen play.

Poor acting.

Bad fake accents.

Computer graphics get silly quick.

The movie in a few more words:

Hugh Jackman's acting is flat, compared to the Wolverine. And where's his German accent? I never understood the directing (or lack of it) in this film.

Kate Beckinsale is gorgeous, of course, but her accent is way over the top and just plain stupid. Now if Jackman is Australian and Beckinsale is British, how come she has a ridiculously thick German accent and he has virtually none? Very poor directing (or cooperation on the actors part). And she looks like she just fell out of an MTV music video. What's up with that? This is supposed to take place in the late 1800s and she looks like Madonna. And Jackman is using James Bond style weapons. Oh well! I guess the producers are trying to appeal to the youth crowd.

Plot. Or lack of it. Van Helsing is a man for hire in a time of vampires. The plot twists and turns but the underlying idea is that Van Helsing is the only hope the church has of killing off Dracula and his vampires. He reluctantly teams with a beautiful woman who hinders him as many times as helps. All the classic characters are here including Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and the Wolfman.

This story has been told better in too many much better (though much less expensive) films. Rent the original Frankenstein (1931) and Dracula (1931).

For the $150 million dollar budget this film had, you'd think that it could be slightly entertaining. And it only took in $120 million dollars U.S. gross, even though it's worldwide gross was just over $300 million.

Sorry. Don't waste your money on this one. Watch for Van Helsing to come on HBO or network tv!
