A hot disco club is having a big dance contest at midnight with special music guests the Commodores set to perform, and the contestants -- from two high school girls Frannie and Jeannie, to regular dancers like Marv Gomez, the Leatherman -- are ready to compete. Some people have come looking for dates, such as Ken, who goes to meet a nice girl with his buddy Carl, and the klutzy but sweet Jennifer, who's looking for a nice guy. Others are trying to keep their romance alive, such as Dave, who spends more time on his business than having fun with his wife Sue, and problems arise when the disco club's Tony DiMarco tries to woo over Sue to win a bet with the new DJ Bobby Speed. And then others are there for one for chance to make it big, like Nicole Sims, who tries to show Bobby Speed what she can do with her incredible singing talent, but Bobby has problems of his own trying to get his friend Floyd to drive the Commodores' music equipment there in time for the dance.
