Hard to believe this movie came out several years ago. It's a dark but intense adaptation of the novel by Robert Harris. Overall, I preferred the book, but it's better than most novel-to-film remakes. The director spends a little too much time trying to follow the main character and his adventure with the distaff sex. Why does every movie have to do this? Truly, there are some people, believe it or not, who try to think with what's between our ears. So the movie loses a few points for pandering.

However, Daniel Craig is good as the embattled investigator searching for Stalin's diary. The flashbacks to the Soviet dictator's time are chilling. They don't do many stories like this, so it's worth a view.
