There is some very good writing going on in this movie. The characters suffer a terrible lose and find themselves in uncharted waters. They behave strange at times and try desperately to do the right thing or to be less cliche: try and pick up the pieces of their lives.
The writing, although good, wouldn't be the same if it weren't for Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon, whom take the dialog and silence in between and really give the characters a sense of depth, pain and grief.
Jake Gyllenhaal, is good as well, but I think at times he's slightly out of his depth, but in all honesty, his courtroom scene is top notch.
It is listed as Comedy in the genre, I suppose that's some what true, but in reality it's more of a serious drama, just be warned.
