Not only does Patton rank as one of the greatest war movies ever made, but it also has to be considered an all-time classic that belongs on every serious film-collector's shelf.

Focusing entirely upon George S. Patton Jr.'s World War Two years (1942-45), the film does a fine job of depicting Patton's struggles with both himself and the enemy. George C. Scott is totally convincing in his portrayal of the complex character, and his performance alone is a good reason to watch this movie. Along with an excellent supporting cast and a memorable music score, the movie features brilliant cinematography (filmed in the rarely-used Dimension 150 70mm process)and rises far above its few flaws. Although the historical aspect of the script is somewhat altered for dramatical purposes, the film does manage to avoid the politics of the era it was made in, unlike most similar films of that time. Despite being filled with harsh language and showing the brutality of war, Patton manages to succeed on an inspirational and spiritual level as well...truly, a rare feat.
