One of my favourite films, I have seen this movie a long time ago, as a kid, and I feel a very strong attachment to it. Therefore, my love of it probably affects my objectivity as a critic of it.

That being said - I know that this may not be an entirely perfect film, but I have yet to see one that will invoke in me the feelings of such magnitude. The wonderfully paced story, slowly rising from the heartbeat-tempo of the opening music into the apocalyptic feeding frenzy at the end, the flawless lighting, angles and camera work, all make the atmosphere absolutely involving, almost hypnotizing.

When I saw this movie for the first time (and many times subsequently), there came a point when I felt entirely drawn into the story...watching it , fearing for the protagonists, feeling as though I was actually right there with them, completely unaware of my surroundings. Now, a movie that can do that is surely a masterpiece.

I still have not found a single movie in any genre that can rival it in the sheer scope of atmosphere it creates.

Hollywood can learn a lot from movies like this one. Its strongest point lies in its realism, even I would say - modesty of presentation, deceptive simplicity...there are no overdone special effects or flashy characters...just a presentation of everyday world, ever so subtly kicked askew. And that's wherein its wonder lies. This story is a fantasy. Over-the-top grizzly. Absurd. And you WILL believe it.

Watch this movie. You may like it, you may not. But I am sure that it will enrich you in some way. It's just to powerful a vision to experience with indifference.

Even so many years after my first viewing, I am still left with the echoes of that world that's gone mellow, slow and lethargic, where our civilization is only a memory and the dead walk the earth as a reminder to the living.

One of my favorites of all time.

Its pretty well done - the leading lady drives me crazy though, not the best actress that one.

Well sure but then again, its not very scary at any standpoint in the movie. But its a bit better than the Resident Evil movie series where the zombies look like almost ridculous.

George Romero' Dawn of the Dead is a sequel from the 1968 orignal, Night of the Living Dead which became a definitive horror film of its time. Eleven years later, he would unleash the most shocking motion picture experience for all times. As modern society is consumed by zombie carnage, four desperate survivors after what is come to be a Hippie liberation from its hideout comes zombies, barricade themselves insider a Pittsbourgh shopping mall to battle the flesh-eating hordes of the undead. After they liberated as much zombies in the mall, they spend their time getting as much rations and supplies as possible to live this zombie-infested mall. This is the ferocious horror classic, featuring landmark gore effects by Tom Savini, that remains one of the most important - and most controversial - horror films in history. The effects in this movie seems kinda cool, as you experience gorely headshots and decapitated heads, as you venture towards the storyline. Its just amazing how the effects were in this movie, in that era of technology seems to be a nostaglia.

The zombie designs of this film seems to be a bit better than the Resident Evil movie series, it least they look more menacing. This movie is also kinda of a comedy where the survivors always toy with them and proved to be hilarious at times. But with the hippies come and wretched their mall, DAMN YOU HIPPIES! its not funny and its totally wrong and annoying. The dialogue in this movie is horrible, as you see the struggles on the four survivors in this mall being kinda dumb at times. Thats a scene where an army, police force and hippies enjoying life in a zombie infested world, just enjoying life, drinking beer and making havoc and it proves to be retarded and annoying. How come they miliary just friggen prepare themselves and don't enjoy doing dumb things.

Overall, John Romero's Dawn of the Dead is one of those movies that its expectally scary and gruesome at times. The ending makes a cliffhanger to its the next sequel. Its quite indeed a popcorn movie to enjoy. John Romero is purely a genius of making the movie. Fans and people who want to see this movie should. This is a Reccommended Purchase!

Dawn of the Dead is what you expect from a zombie movie nowadays and I'm sure was way above standards when it came out! Not very scary but, in my opinion movies rarely are. A definite buy for the zombie lovers collection.

its about 4 people - who are almost strangers themselves flying by helicopter to escape a epidemic of reanimated dead corpses, they find a shopping mall and live for some time with the conviences' of living in a shopping mall, until one day they decide to rid the mall of the zombies and things go bad from then on!!!!

Here we have it! One of the original Zombie gem movies. This is a sequel to George Romeros' Night of the Living dead. This movie in my opinion beets all of the new age zombie flicks. Don't get me wrong, some of the newer zombie flicks are good as well but they don't hold a candle to the originals. The story starts out with some of the last survivors from the zombie apocalypse. Eventually they find a mall and set up camp. Some of the best quotes are from this movie. This movie gets a 10 because it is sheer brilliance!
