Andrew Sterling is a successful african american writer who buys a vacation home on a resort in New England. The Police then mistake him for a burglar. After surrounding his home with officers Chief Tolliver realizes his big mistake and to avoid the bad publicity he offers a thief in the local jail named Amos Odell a deal. Amos is to pretend to take Andrew Sterling prisoner and hold him for ransom but let him go and then escape. Amos and Andrew suddenly realize that the Chief's problems are all gone if the two of them both die so they make a plan and execute it with some problems along the way.
