Annie Get Your Gun is socko musical entertainment on film, just as it was on the Broadway stage. (Review of original release)

Baritone Howard Keel makes an impressive Hollywood debut as Hutton's leading man. During the nonmusical scenes, Betty Hutton gives a crude and strident performance, exhausting to watch, but she belts out the songs with an appropriately rowdy energy.

Though the film suffers from Sidney's point-and-shoot approach to the Robert Alton-staged musical numbers, it's buoyed nicely by the songs themselves, a clever script, crisp Technicolor cinematography, and Hutton's spirited performance.

In a glove-fitting role, Hutton blasts her way on and off screen as the sharpshooting Annie Oakley Mozie. (Review of original release)
