Release Date: 1/17/03 Official Website: www.mgm.com Director: Chris Koch Starring: Jason Lee, Julia Stiles, and Selma Blair Straight-laced Paul is at his bachelor's party at a bar when he learns that some dancing Tiki girls in bikinis are about to come out. Embarrassed, Paul has his friend Jim pretend to be the groom. Paul then starts to talk to an untalented Tiki girl and buys her a beer. The next thing Paul knows, he's waking up in his bed, next to the Tiki girl, who's naked. His fiancée's mother has just called, so Paul knows that his fiancée Karen is on her way over. The Tiki girl gets dressed and Paul shoos her out of the apartment, even though she says she's left behind her underwear. Paul searches for the underwear as Karen arrives and knocks on his door. Desperate, Paul finds the underwear and hides it in his toilet tank before he opens the door and lets Karen in. Later that day, Paul is driving on a toll road when he sees that the Tiki girl is now working as a toll booth operator. She gets flustered and can't operate the machine that lifts the wooden road barrier, and she ends up denting Paul's car and smashing the wooden road barrier. At a family dinner, Karen says she wants to introduce Paul to someone special. He walks into the kitchen and is shocked to see the Tiki girl, and he learns that she's actually Karen's cousin, Becky. Paul quickly exits the kitchen before Becky can see him, and fakes diarrhea so he can hide in the bathroom the rest of the night. The next day, Paul tracks Becky down to a music store where she's now working. Paul gets upset when Becky insinuates that the store's bohemian music isn't for Paul because he's too conservative. Becky then reassures Paul that even though they did sleep in the same bed, they did not have sex. Becky then promises to keep quiet about their night together. After coming home from a ballroom dancing class, Paul is attacked by Becky's ex-fiancé, Ray Donovan, a cop with a steroid rage problem. Ray shows Paul pictures of Paul and Becky together and then warns Paul to stay away from Becky. Ray then pushes Paul into a dumpster. Karen arrives a minute later (after Roy has left), and sees Paul climbing out of the dumpster. He makes up a story about being mugged and Karen calls the cops. While tending to Paul's injuries, Karen sees that the toilet is leaking. She lifts up the lid and finds Becky's underwear inside. Paul lies that the underwear is a surprise gift for Karen, and a store clerk lies for Paul to back up his story. Becky calls from her new job at a bar and tells Paul that Ray has more pictures of them together. Paul and Becky sneak into Ray's apartment and steal the photos and the negatives, and avoid nearly being attacked by Ray's guard dog. After dropping Becky home at her apartment, Paul is pulled over by Ray, who plants drugs on him. At the police station, Internal Affairs officers tell Paul that they'll let him off the hook if he wears a wire and helps trap Ray. At the wedding rehearsal dinner, Paul's brother Pete reminisces about how Pete was the first to meet Karen and instantly knew that she was the one for him, but that he couldn't act on his feelings because he was trapped in an unhappy marriage at the time. Paul comes home to discover Ray in his apartment. Ray confesses to planting the drugs on Paul and to his other illegal actions. Ray then puts Paul in a chokehold, but the I.A. officers bust in and arrest Ray. Right before the wedding, Karen's dad overhears Paul discussing all his misdeeds, but Karen's dad says he'll let Paul off the hook if he treats Karen right. During the ceremony, the minister (who found his son with dirty pictures of Paul and Becky) keeps asking if anyone objects to the marriage. After a few moments, Paul finally objects, saying that he's always done the safe thing in life and has never tried anything that might cause him fear. Pete (now divorced) seizes on this golden opportunity and admits to Karen that he's always loved her. The two of them leave the church together, arm in arm. Outside the church, Paul runs to catch Becky, who's just left in a cab. Becky gets the cab driver to pull over, and Becky and Paul share a kiss. Together at last, they then get back in the cab and drive off down the streets of Seattle.
