This film was made in the late seventies, but it doesn't truly wear like that. Sure, some of the shots look like they were from that era, but most of it tells of a much older movie, something akin to Moses or Ben-Hur, where it takes its place with a very prestigious crowd.
I was immediately drawn in when the narration informed me that Mohammad would not be shown, as doing so is believed to take away from his spiritual power. I was hooked, an entire movie about the creation of Islam and its founder, without ever showing the prophet? Amazing and very classy.
It has some interesting Historical evidence as well, seeing it just for that and the philosophical arguments presented are worth it.
But, Anthony Quinn does what he always does, steals every scene. The man is a giant and deserves credit for this work.
The direction is pretty good, but it suffers from trying to hard at times, such as the battle scene, and some points where the narration is explaining the situation, some of that is just over done.
Over all though, a very good movie. If you're a layman, this is a good groundbreaking for introduction into Islam.
