A great revenge movie. James Caviezel is great as Dantes and the movie is very well acted overall. The points are well made and the story is told in a flowing manner.

Based on the classic novel by Andre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo is what you would call an old school type of movie. What I mean by old school, is that this film is all about getting the story told, and quite a story it does tell. The Count of Monte Cristo centers around Edmond Dante (Jim Caviezel) as he starts out as an innocent worker who is betrayed by his best friend and is sent to prison. Not knowing why he's in prison, he soon comes to realize who did this to him, with the help of the Priest (the late Richard Harris) and plots his revenge. 16 years pass before Edmond is able to escape and quickly sets events in motion that will bring the downfall of everyone who was involved in his arrest. He is aided by Jacopo (Luis Guzman) and a band of smugglers. But it is Jacopo who realizes that Edmond's vengeance might destroy him.

When it comes to the old movies, circa the 50s-80s, movies were all about telling stories and acting, as special effects were quite costly to the overall film budget. This is why it's a nice reprieve to see The Count of Monte Cristo, as its old style is refreshing. The acting overall, isn't the best, but it's good enough to help move the story along.

Overall, the Count of Monte Cristo is a great adventure/revenge film from the chronicles of the movies of yesteryear. Yet, it the pace of the movie may be a bit slow for some viewers. It's worth a look.
