First off, small movies like this tend to be under acted, such as "Kids" was. The film work, the direction, the way it almost seems like reality TV tend to make the acting (or lack there of) stand out. In the case of this movie, the acting is superb.
Parker Posey is at her peak here. She plays a character with real depth, unlike Party Girl, You've got mail. Etc. In this movie her character has human characteristics and she does an excellent job of capturing the feeling.
Liev Shreiber is his classic self, and a bit funny and sad as the under appreciated doting boyfriend. His character is really just a comedy side kick and lacks the depth it needed, but he is an accomplished actor and manages to keep us interested.
The star though, is Hope Davis, whom runs the emotional gamut as she struggles to understand what her fictional husband is up to.
Overall the story is clean and not overly complex, and all of the scenes are important to the moral and the theme the writer was going for. It won't keep you guessing, but my surprise you. There are a couple of moments though, where the acting and shot just don’t work. Be prepared.
