Early 70s cinema has been tainted for me since I watched Soylent Green, which aged terribly. A Clockwork Orange did not age terribly. In fact, it aged perfectly, its message becoming more powerful as the years go by and our society appears to become more liberal. Being a Stanley Kubrick film, you get the essentials: Perfect, inspired cinematography, great acting, a haunting score, a haunting plot, unforgettable moments, and, well, I guess I'll just go right off and say that you get an unforgettable film. What works here is the director's vision, coupled with the original writer's philosophies. A great translation, one that may not be favoured by all viewers, but should at least be respected for all it accomplishes. If you can handle the contents, you might just love it for all the aforementioned.

was great doesnt it?, I heard that the movie wasnt have the real sense of the book, so... the movie was really good, I really like it. something I have never seen before. If the book is more enjoyable then I have to read it.

I read this book before seeing the film. I first saw the film in the cinema on re-release. Not very good film. We tend to watch things we shouldn't, the saying curiousity killed the cat is most helpful for watching this film.

The language if you do not know is a russian slang, mixed with high class english. So it may seem a very foreign film even though it was directed by Stanley Kubrick. Filmed in England.

Good mid week film or friday night horror.

Cut to maniacal, unblinking face. Slow, again, dreamlike zoom out reveals that the maniacal face has companions. Still unblinking. Then Malcolm McDowells somehow eerie voice comes in 'There was me, that is Alex...' and its very had to not feel unsettled, even if youve seen it before, and especially if you havent. This sets the tone for the entire movie, and the first time, it isnt the most pleasant film ever. The storyline is about a violent hooligan called Alex and his pack of 'droogs' who follow him everywhere, obeying his every command. Their sick pleasures include, beating up defenceless people, rape and theft from houses. Before long though, there is stirring in the ranks, and Alexs 'droogs' turn against him, landing him in prison. In a desperate effort to be free again, he becomes a guinea pig in a technique still in testing, a technique that makes him unable to commit, or watch any act of rape or violence. The most memorable thing about the film is the imagery. Alex's maniacal stare, Alex strapped to a chair in the 'treatment' among others. This is a disturbing film, but essential watching for everyone.
