A clerical error brought this once-forgotten movie out of oblivion and turned it into one of the premier Christmas classics, one which the holidays just doesn't seem to be the same without. The big movie in 1946 was "The Best Years Of Our Lives", which seemed to fit the somewhat cynical mood Americans were in during the postwar years, but posterity has been much kinder to "It's A Wonderful Life". There are some dark moments, like young George getting slapped by an angry (but sad) Mr. Gower, George getting rough with his Uncle Billy, yelling at his kids ("Why do we have to have all these kids"), and of course, the prospect of suicide. Still, the film strives to show that, in spite of its dark moments, life really is wonderful, and the world wouldn't be the same without any one of us.

Despite the lukewarm feelings of critics and audiences when this movie debuted, it is a well-crafted film in many respects.

As much as I like it, I tend to mark it lower due to the fact that the rich character of George Bailey...

Despite the lukewarm feelings of critics and audiences when this movie debuted, it is a well-crafted film in many respects.

As much as I like it, I tend to mark it lower due to the fact that the rich character of George Bailey notwithstanding, every other character is one-dimensional - evil Potter, dumb Uncle Billy, breezy Sam Wainwright, stalwart Harry, suffering Mary. But at the same time, the story is somewhat unique in really following the plotlines over the generations and dabbling in a version of "time travel".

Emotions are all over this movie, and Capra is unapologetic about it all. Despite the overt sentimentality, it works really well within its genre.

Just when Life get's tough, George Baily wish he was never born, and learn how wonderful life is. This has to be one of the best and greatest christmas movie ever been made. It have such a wonderful cast and a great Storyline. I really love this...

one of the greatest movies of all time! Frank Capra is one of the greatest director and James Stewart one of the best actors!

Yes, movie is one of the best movies ever made. It is not one I watch over and over, but it is still good to see from time to time. Excellent plot, script, acting, and message.

It certainly is a perfect example of what a movie should look like. A great story, a great actor and a wonderful photography. This movie is certainly one of the greatest movie ever made.

Obviously...this movie has been a favorite for ages. But there is a reason for that--it's becasue the message it taught still rings true and will continue to ring through the ages. Our great-great-grandchildren will watch and love this movie...
