Following a string of sports movies by Disney, Invincible tells the story of Vince Papale. Vince never really much of anything in life, as the movie starts out with his wife leaving him and losing his job as a substitute teacher. Out of a job with only his love of football, and more importantly the Eagles, keeps him going. Then one day he gets a chance to try out for the Eagles in an open tryouts. He makes the team and finds himself on the field. Mark Wahlberg stars, and does a pretty good job. The rest of the cast do a good job, nothing outstanding though. Invincible does a great job at setting the mood of the era in Southern Philadelphia, but somewhat misses on the actual football being played. The movie never really takes a look at what's going on between Vince and the rest of the football team, and the football sequences are quite short in comparison, and seems to set up the ending to have Vince make that winning TD. Although the story really is about Vince's life outside of football, of which it does a pretty good job of, you just can't feel somewhat knowing what's going to happen before it happens. Invincible seems to be falling into an apparent pattern Disney is making with their sports movies. Overall, Invincible is a good movie. For sports fans it's worth a look, but only one. There are better sports films out there.
