I was a big fan of Jean-Claude at the time, and out of a lot of his films (mainly earlier ones the later ones kinda suck except for "JCVD" but that's another story) this one is my favorte one of the bunch and I feel it's his best because Jean-Claude Van Damme is at his best. And this may sound contrivercial but also John Woo's best as well.

The plot I thought was good it wasn't anything really new, it was basically "The Most Dangerous Game" all over again which has been a format utilized in dozens of other films as well as episodes for certain TV shows, but this is one of the films that does it right. It's the same game with the same rules it just a different player is involved, and the bad guys have deffenantly picked the wrong man to hunt, because Jean-Claude is the kind of game that shoots back.

Everything about this film works to make it a good film, the setting, good guy and bad guys Jean Claude I thought did a good job but may'be a lot better he's basically an urban cowboy but most of all you really do see intensity in his face from being both hunter and hunted. The main bad guy Emil played by Lance Henrichsen is good because he's intimidating and sharp, he's the passive agressive type of villian he's always seems in control but isn't afraid to do some dirty work himself. Aronold Vosloo from "The Mummy" films and the upcoming "G.I. Joe movie" is also good as the right hand man who does most of the dirty work, he's just as intimidating but is a little scary and blackly funny in a way. I always like it whenever he says, "You hurt my feelings" you know when that happens it's not good.

But most of all the action is all well done, shot, chorigraphed the works. It just all looks top notch, mostly the final battle which is one of my favorate battles ever in the Marti Gras Parade float warehouse. It's sort of a crackdown battle since it's in one confined spacebut we just see Jean Claude single handedly taking out what looks like 20 to 30 head hunters with guns and his martial arts skills; I always love that one man alone against many concept it's hardcore.

So if your a Jean-Clade fan or even a newbie I suggest you see this movie. Hard Target hits the target.

Yeah the acting can be quite corny at times, and it's definately not John Woo's film, but I generally think this is Jean-Claude Van Damme's best film.

This film has plenty of entertaining action sequences, good villain roles from both Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo, and an action packed finale.

Recommended for all Jean Claude Van Damme fans.
