Judge Hardin is an honest,yet frustrated judge that is forced to released defendant after defendant loose on technicality.He knows that he is just doing his job,but it does'nt relieve the frustration.His frustation comes to a boil when a case against two defendants Arthur Cooms,and Lawrence Monk comes before him.The two are accused of kidnapping a child(for pornogrphy purposes),and murdering him.They were driving a van that had been used to abduct children in.A bloody shoe belonging to the latest victim was found there when twoo police officers pulled the van over.This seems to be an open,and shut case...until the lawyer for the defendants points out that the officers had neither a warrant,nor probable cause,so Judge Hardin dismisses the case.Outraged the father of the boy that was murdered,rises in the courtroom with gun in hand(having concealed the gun in his jacket)fires at the defendants,but wounding a police officer instead.The father is takened to jail.Hardin expresses his frustration in this latest case to his fellow Judge,and mentor Arthur Caulfield,who after listening decides that the time is right to bring in his one-time protege into 'The Star Chamber'.The Star Chamber is based on a 15th Century extralegal Court that operated far from the regular Court.This modern version has eight like-minded judges,all of whom are frustrated with the cases being thrown out of Court.Caulfield goes over with Hardin what the eight robed Vigilantes do,and should he decide to join the secret group it must be for life,and no turning back.Hardin agrees,and as the newest member is introduced to the other Judges.He presents his case(just as the others have done)to vote on whether the perpetraters should live,or die.As always everybodys vote is guilty.
