Told in a series of flashbacks, this tale of domestic abuse gone wrong unfolds piece by piece. Joyce (Demi Moore) and Jack (Bruce Willis) are a married couple with their share of problems, and Joyce's best friend Cynthia is all too aware of how far those problems go. Joyce has told Cynthia a number of times that she should kill James, the abusive, controlling, lecherous pig that she takes her beatings from on a regular basis, but would she really? It all comes to a head one night at a carnival, when a drunken James is helped back to his van by the ladies. Cynthia leaves the married couple alone to fend for themselves, but James doesn't fend so well. What really happened that night? You can never tell what are real intentions, and which are simply mortal thoughts.
