Probably one of Val Kilmer's best movies. He stars as a FBI agent that is part Sioux. He is sent to investigate a murder on an reservation. Slowly as Kilmer's character accepts his Sioux background the locals begin to trust him and his fellow FBI agents want him out of the investigation. This movie has a great story line based on actual events on reservations back in the 70's. The acting is really enjoyable to watch as is Kilmer's transformation. I recommend this movie to anyone out there that just loves movies. My favorite part has to be Kilmer's interaction with Grandpa Sam Reaches (Chief Ted Thin Elk). There's is some really good scenes between them that had me laughing.

This film takes a very sensitive subject and projects it on the screen very well. I found Val a little less than beleivable as a Native Amreican FBI agent but no matter. My years of working with Native American dissidents and having spen a lot of time on reservations gave me a perpective on the film of great scrutiny. The people are believable and the scenarios very close to reality. I myself have known Native people who were killed for their beliefs. The subject of Leonard Peltier is an underying story line in this film. If you, like this movie or watch it I highly recommend "Pow-Wow Highway" and "Smoke Signals", you will find this film empowering.
