Now, this is my idea of the perfect superhero movie. The script has a lot of big name writers behind it and it doesn't disappoint. The talent in front of and behind the camera really does make the story come alive. Christopher Reeve is perfect for the Man of Steel. I watch this movie a lot, and I still am not bored. Let's not forget the memorable score by John Williams. The entire soundtrack is amazing. Overall, awesome!

In many ways, my favorite super-hero movie because it is not a faithful recreation of the 30-40s Superman, the Silver or Bronze Age Superman, the radio program or the TV program. Instead it's the hopelessly idealized general public's perception of the Man of Tomorrow, containing elements of all of the above.

Therefore, Reeves wooden delivery is perfect, a Man of Steel in New York would be completely out of his element. The mixture of grand music and golden youth with increasing comedy is exactly spot-on for a mature vision of Superman. So...no criticism of "turning back time", no "fan boy" moaning about any comic's elements lost here. It's just about the perfect allegory for a man who "came from the sky and did only good".

Even the well-regarded first sequel to this film is superflous and takes away from what is shown here.

This film can only be described as super. In it's time Superman the Movie was overwhelmed with great special effects. The acting is very well done and Christopher Reeve (may he rest in peace) did a fantastic job at portraying Clark/Superman. Gene Hackman plays a hilarious Lex Luthor as you can tell how he would like nothing more than to rule the world with some better help. From lifting up giant landforms to making a dam, or even spinning the world to rewrite history Superman had everything. You believed a man could fly.

While a great film in it's time, I relay can't take that away from it, I've always gauged a super hero movie not by the hero, but by the villain and the treat they make. The Lex Luthor in this, in my opinion, just isn't what I'd call a match for...

The Lex Luthor in this, in my opinion, just isn't what I'd call a match for the Man of Steel. This is a problem that has plagued all of the movies in the way (No. 2 comes closest to a match with Zod) I don't know, I love them and am not interested at the same time.

Superman is an enjoyable super hero flick. Sadly it takes about 40 minutes to get going (all of the Krypton stuff is boring and really adds nothing to the film). Hackman's Luthor is really delightful and Reeves' Clark Kent and Superman are very competantly portrayed too. Of course, Superman isn't close to being my favourite superhero, so that knocks about a quarter star of the final score. Still, if you're looking for some super-hero action and you've already watched Batman, Batman Returns and Batman Begins to death, you may well find this enjoyable, I know I did.

This movie was a great introduction for the Superman movies and since I don't read comics and haven't watched any Superman shows, it was a great way to introduce the background of Clark Kent and all the characters both major and minor and I think the film deserved its success.

The humour that the film brought was very entertaining, particularly from Lex and Otis was very entertaining and the plot was well thought out aswell.

The effects for its time are remarkable and Chris Reeve's acting was incredible and truly the face of Superman that people will remember.

I think the film spent a little too much time in Smallville and the ending made the whole film seem like a moot point with a few questions regarding the rockets, but overall, it was very entertaining and one of the most memorable films from its era.
