This is a so-so adaptation of the book. They updated it for modern times and they hurt themselves a little bit in doing so. Val Kilmer gives a very impressive performance. But Marlon Brando was all over the place with his, which hurt the film. It also doesn't help that the horror of the book was in the idea that it was possibly at that point in time, but now that isn't considered to be possible, therefore the horror is lost.

Perhaps the worst movie ever.
