When Lucy Owens (Kate Hudson) meets Adam (Stuart Townsend), he quickly sweeps her off of her feet. She is so in love with him that she cannot wait until she can introduce him to her family. Unfortunately for Lucy, when her family does meet Adam, they fall for him t0o. They fall for him so much that both of her sisters start sleeping with him, unknown to her. In addition to sleeping with Adam, both of her sisters also fall in love with him. When Lucy believes that their relationship is at a peak (and Adam's relationships with both of her sisters are at a peak as well) Lucy proposes to Adam in a family setting, with both of her sisters who love him as witnesses.
