The animated movie that forever changed the face of animated movies, and proved that not only could adult animated films be made but that they could be successful and taken seriously as well. Although relatively tame by today's standards, this film was willing to do what few others were willing to do in 1972 by telling it like it was and is. This film is revolutionary as it marked a coming of age for animated films whether it was meant to be that way or not. It marked the end of all cartoons simply being seen as innocent as was the case in the golden and silver age of animation. In fact this movie brought about the end of the silver age of animation. Success like this meant it would take some time before another animated film could come along and start a new wave of animated movie hits. "Fritz the Cat" served it's purpose. To give a message without being too preachy, and saying that ultimately all anyone wants to do is to do the right thing. And to not be afraid of what the right thing might end up meaning to you, as long as it helps others in the long run. That is what the character did, and that is what the movie did. For this reason, I salute "Fritz the Cat" not only for being revolutionary, but for also speaking the truth at a time when it is so desperately needed!
