I saw it a couple of years ago and it still holds out as one of the best movies I've ever seen. I'd say it's even more devastating the second time because you know how it ends. What an end it is indeed. It's an intense, intense movie. Some of the scenes actually make me physically sick. But the ass to ass scene was great Apparently that scene is based on something Aronofsky actually saw. Lucky him I guess.

Each of the characters has an addiction, which leads them into a downward spiral of destruction and despair, and as their dreams collide with the harsh reality, this movie ends up being a masterpiece of film making. I think this is one movie you should see when you think about trying drugs. It's not just about drugs too. What is a drug anyway? Is just the hard stuff like cocaine or heroine to be called a drug? Then what about the socially acceptable stuff like prescription pills? The music, yes how could I forget about the music. It's just one of the best movie scores I've heard. Mansell did a terrific job capturing the bleak piercing feel of the movie. I've used the words "best ever" liberally in this review but I feel that Requiem For A Dream commands it. I just wanted to see it once again so I could free up some space from my hard disk but now I don't have to heart to delete it. I loved it but I think you can hate this movie too. You just can't ignore it.

Awesome movie. You probably won't want to have anything to do with drugs of any kind after seeing it. Unforgettable movie...ASS TO ASS!

Requiem shows the emotional and physical struggle of four people.Although very crude and sometimes disgusting it is showing real life that some people unfortunaley go through.It shows us the very real world of drugs which we choose to ignore.I would have to say the actors were perfect in there roles and delivered very belivable performances which pretty much makes the movie.Also the film making was spectacular it was someimtes wierd and confusing but gave us the sense of what they felt.Overall this is one of the best movies out there.

Requiem For A Dream covers many forms of dangerous addictions. From Harry, Mariones and Tyrons heroin addictions, to Harry's mom addiction in eating which then turns to the addiction of weight loss pills, or speed. This movie is actually being shown in high schools around the world, even though some of the graphic nature may be inappropriate for many, the movie turns out to show the graphic realism of addiction. As the movie starts out cool and funny, we then journey into a dark and sick world, which is actually happening right outside our front doors. Show in an indie film way, Requeim For A Dream is certainly the most intense and emotionally gripping movie I have seen in a long time. The performances which were put out by our 4 main characters are stunning. Jared Leto plays as a heroin addict. As Jared Leto is known for his druggie roles, as he played a druggie in Lord of War and many others, his performance in here is heartbraking. His character is troubled and the most complex of the movie, and by the end I couldnt help but feel horribly bad for him. Being played as Harry's mom, Ellen Burstyn's performance is terrifying. Her addiction to the weight loss pills is literally scary, as the change the person taking the pills. She becomes insane and what not and her performance is horribly amazing. Jennifer Connely plays as Marion, and in the beginning we think of her as the goody good girl in the movie, but by the end we find out how much of an addict she really is. As she is constantly selling herself for money to buy more drugs. The directing of the movie is one of the big standpoints. Instead of Darron Aronofsky just telling us how the characters felt, he expresses it by his camera work. If a character is feeling slow, the shot is played in an awkward slow motion, giving you the feeling that you are that character. If a character feels fast or rushed, the movie is sped up, giving us more of an experience with the characters. There are moments where the screen just goes insane. There is a shot towards the end where Harry and Tyrone are in prison, Harry is yelling because of the pain in his arm and Tyrone is yelling for help but the camera shakes in an extreme movement, giving you the feeling that they have no control anymore. The movie also does a great job with showing us how drugs can change a person, as many of the characters are completely new by the end of the film. Requiem For A Dream is disturbing, real, emotional and gripping. A Must See!

This movie is definitely not for conservative or easily offended viewers, but it is full of powerful performances and a haunting score and visuals. All the performances are excellent, but without a doubt, Ellen Burstyn as the obsessed with diet pills mother living alone in Brooklyn is the best. Nothing seems forced, she seems like she really is in this out of her mind state, and you feel for her. Marlon Wayans goes against type and you wonder with this great acting why he still makes crap like White Chicks and Little Man. Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly's performances are great, although Jared Leto's character is somewhat unlikable at times. Still, overall it is a haunting masterpiece that explores addiction very well. For fans of this, check out the equally great Trainspotting.

The visuals behind this film are great. The score is wonderful. The film misses any sort of real emotional draw.
While there are some great performances in the film, they weren't given by two of the main actors: Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly. Both of these performances fall so flat, and the characters are so two demensional, so that it's hard to cares what happens to them at the end of the movie.
If only Aronofsky had Selby tweak the script, then we would have a very beautiful movie...but as it now it feels a bit empty.

What an amazing ending to a brilliant movie. Not only was the script sharp, but so was the acting. Each of the actors and actresses delivered top notch performances in this creepy, yet depressing film.
