The story of the fictional baseball team the New York Mammoth’s, and two of its players: Henry Wiggen, their star pitcher, and Bruce Pearson, the normal everyday catcher who is far from the star player. While in the off-season, Bruce finds out that he is terminally ill, and Henry takes it upon himself to make his last season the best.
