This movie for me is one of the defining movies of the 60s, a screwball comedy where the stars and their personal quirks take as much of a center stage as the story itself. In many ways, its similar to "Oceans 11" in that context.

I found some of the aspects funny, some not so much, in many ways as the characters scramble to find the treasure based on the revealed clues its very much an allegory of an increased emphasis on the cult of personality - an aspect that makes the movie rather schizophrenic and not as well-integratedc(or funny) as it could be.

As the stars narrow in on the "X" of crossed palm trees, I am always reminded of a change in cinema and of both the grander stories and less-grandiose simple comedies that many of the players in this star-packed movie had once performed in.
