Private Investigator, Mike Church (Kenneth Branagh), is called in to help learn the identity of a woman (Emma Thompson) who has shown up at the gates of an orphanage with total amnesia and no ability to speak. After a visit to a hypnotist, the mystery woman regains her voice along with the memories of a past life. Branagh and Thompson also play the main roles in the flashback scenes as the mystery of what happened to Roman and Margaret Strauss unfolds. Did Roman kill Margaret (the crime for which he was executed)? And if he did, can they prevent history from repeating itself?
