Inevitably compared to "Gettysburg" (for obvious reasons), this sequel falls well-short of the high-water mark set by the earlier film.
While "Gettyburg" had a leisurely pace to examine a three day battle, this one tries to cram three battles into the same amount of movie time. Any one of these battles could make an epic film on their own, but all we get here is a cursory look at a few details of each. Also, it's disorienting to see a few of the actors carried over but playing different roles than they had in "Gettysburg".
Some of the battle scenes are very well-done and inspiring; the staging of the battle of Chancellorsville (what little we see of it) is as awesome a spectacle as anything in "Gettysburg". But, this is ultimately a movie about Stonewall Jackson, and the truth is, we learn so little about him over the course of this film (and even less about these battles he fought in). Nevertheless, this is still a good movie and should be well-appreciated.
