Napoleon is imprisoned on the island of St Helena. He is replaced by a doppleganger and escapes back to his beloved France. Unfortunately the doppleganger enjoys living the life of Riley so much that when the moment arrives when he's aggreed to reveal himself as a fake, he refuses. Meanwhile Napoleon bumbles around finding it impossible to get anyone to believe he's the real Napoleon in France. The streets, and indeed the insane asylums, are full of people saying they are the prodigal Napoleon.
