Renny Harlin is a good director as long as he makes the right movies and this is one of them. This film is one big thrill ride from begining to end, because it has unrrenting suspense in it's deadly game of hide and seek. The good guys had two things going against them, one bad guys are going to kill them and two the mountains could if they even slip.

The good guy characters were good they were well rounded and had emotion, the dilema (though not too important and is kinda typical melodrama) riding on them thoughout the film helped with that, the good guys have to use their mountain climbing skills, wits, as well as their whole enviorment as their weapon against the bad guys. Even the bad guys were good being the scum suckers they are, most stand out bad guy though is Eric Quailan played by John Lithgow he does a great job and playing a calcualting, sharp, cold, ruthless, menicing villian. Let alone the accent attached to him, there is always something about forgin accents that elevates the threat.

But of course the real kick of the film is no doubt the action and cinamatography with it. There is no CGI so most to all of what your seeing is actually real. I love the fact that the arena of action takes place in the mountains which hasn't really been done before (or not much anyway). The cinamatography is great from that heist going on in the film but most of all the mountains and just seeing Sly scale them is breathtaking, beautiful, and downright suspenseful all at once. Action sequences are great, Not just being thrill and exciting but also resulting in creative deaths of the bad guys that they rightfully deserve. My favorate sequence is the night vision hunt, which then results in both the bad guy and Sly sliding down a hill and Sly uses the ground to shread part of that guys face off like a cheese grater, ouch.

Well I have nothing else to say, Cliffhanger is a thrilling experence to hang on to.

This movie was half way entertaining. The story was ok, the acting was decent with the help of John Lithgow, and the action was pretty good, 3 Stars.
