I saw a few snippets from the beginning of the movie, and the Matrix-fan in me woke up immediately. This is not Matrix, though. Yet I think this ranks just as high in my book. The visuals are not stunning but good, the acting is great, the plot perfect. The emotion and a feel of "waking up" is heady. And believe it or not, this movie can be touching too - at least for me, as a lover of animals.

My recommendation: if you like sci-fi or action just one bit, watch this!

"Rent It" - A fantastic action packed ride with a well thought out dystopia for the charaters to inhabit. But suffers from a very high required suspention of disbelief and other niche motifs. One for fans of this style of flick.

Its really hard to believe that the director of the tragedy that was Ultraviolet once before did a movie as good as Equilibrium. Theres a critic review on the case which actually tells the reader to forget about The Matrix because this movie is better, I have to say I disagree. Both do take place in the future, both feature amazing special effects and fight scenes, but The Matrix is a lot better then this is. Kurt Wimmer does a great job in creating an interesting story of the future, something in which I have never seen, heard or read about before. The action scenes are simply stunning and the directing is dead on perfect. Problem is the movie gets boring. Thats about it. Its interesting to have the idea that in the future there will be no emotions, now that I have seen and understood the movie, I ask myself a question. Would mankind be better off without emotion? Would we be a better society without drama or love? I think we can keep love but please take away drama because now a days, drama is ridiculous. The movie shows that there is always a person who is willing to break the rules, and to test the realms were not aloud to see anymore. With the character of John Preston, he realizes that these laws they must obey are actually very wrong. When you dont take the injection, you see and feel the things people who take the injection dont. So he soon feels bad for the things he does, but by the end, when he knows he is caught, but he then turns around and changes the plot around. The action scenes are definately the highlight of the whole movie. Since The Matrix comes before this film, Kurt Wimmer definately looked at The Matrix and created all of his action scenes around that. The opening acton scene is the weakest of the movie, but my belief is that this was for a reason. The director wanted you to kind of see this scene, then blow you away in the future, later in the movie. The rest of the action scenes really go ballistic with flips and slow motion and everything. The only negative thing about the movie I can really think of is the fact that it gets boring in the middle. Thats it.

Equlibrium is a great movie that shows us what censorship can do to the human race. It's an emotional story in a generally emotionless society, the main character suddenly sees life as if through the eyes of the criminals he punished and is force to reevaluate his own life. It's absolutely bursting with action and is a great movie.

Ray Bradbury must be a really swell guy, he seemed nice when I met him at the Fryer's Club, but that's a different kind of nice, for I don't understand how he didn't sue the writers of this movie for copyright infringement.

Ray Bradbury must be a really swell guy, he seemed nice when I met him at the Fryer's Club, but that's a different kind of nice, for I don't understand how he didn't sue the writers of this movie for copyright infringement.
The premise of Equilibrium is awful close to Fahrenheit 451: Emotionless society, kept in check by 'the system', enforced as necessary, until one day one of the fireman...oops...legal enforcers recognizes his individuality, emotions, and more importantly Soul.
But, Equilibrium is a dull emotionless movie. I had heard like everyone else that the gun fight scenes where great. Well, there were a couple of moments where the fight scenes piqued my interest, but they were mere bubbles in the vast quiet ocean of a dull plot and terribly dialog.
Yes, the dialog was bad. There is a need in movies like this to make the characters say short very meaningful phrases, instead of being human and occasionally rambling around a subject until the pieces all fit in the head. Christian Bale's character should have had a few moments like that, learning all these new things about himself, he should have had a furrowed brow and let his heart say a few things. It had been silent a long time, I'm sure it had quite a bit to say.
As for the plot, this good vs. evil craze is getting old, truly deep characters want nothing to do with 'evil', because they have no idea that they are even in it. We all have demons and not a character exposed a single one.
Okay, now I see why Bradbury didn't sue...this doesn't resemble his very passionate and emotional work written in the basement of the LA Library over 50 years ago, not one bit.

When this movie came out, their were a lot of comparisons to The Matrix, I think that really hurt it in the publics eyes, because they didn't want to see a "rip-off" of The Matrix (or any sequels, to that fact). Now, while their are some parts where the comparison to The Matrix it warranted, the storyline is much better here, the visuals can't beat a big time movie studio, but they are passable. Plus, one thing this has going for it, is Christian Bale over the the star of The Matrix films. 9/10.

Equilibrium is by far one of the greatest movies ever created. In it, Christian Bale plays the role of an emotionless law enforcer (John Preston) struggling in an emotionless and bland society. After missing a dose of his emotion suppressant, Preston sees the true beauty of life and rebels against the conformist society and the law that enforces it.Although Christian Bale plays the lead role, the movie has an excellent cast of supporting characters including Sean Bean, Taye Diggs, and Angus Macfadyen. The action sequences are absolutely fantastic and are primarily supplemented by a movie created gun technique called Gun Kata. Watching Preston develop as a character is an emotional and moving experience,and you can't help but love the movie by the time the credits role. I recommend this movie to anyone remotely interested in a good viewing experience.

if this movie was released before the matrix it would have been the matrix. Excelent fighting scenes and a cool storyline. Excelent movie. I recommend it.
