In the American desert, in a secret subterranean laboratory, scientists create a girl named Sil, created by genetic engineering and alien DNA, but escapes. The leader of the project, Xavier Fitch (Ben Kingsley), gathers a team so that the girl can be found. The team includes Press (Michael Madsen), the mind reader Dan (Forest Whitaker), molecular biologist Laura (Marg Helgenberger) and anthropologist Arden (Alfred Molina). The mission is then further complicated when Sil matures into a blond woman (Natasha Henstridge) and seeks a mate in order to spread her species: an alien-human hybrid.
