This movie starts with a young man, Al Connelly (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) in a diner who tells us his story about his first love, Imogene (Julia Stiles). After meeting at a party, Imogene's free-spirit sweeps Al off of his feet. They launch head-first into a relationship, and share their dreams of him becoming a chef, and her becoming an author.
