It's a 3 hour and 20 minute shell-shock trip through very human themes. The film's reflections may affect your own, in which case the film becomes very personal. Aside from what you'll get out of the film, there's the obvious factor of it having amazing cinematography, specially in the film's final hour, incredible acting and a great score.

The flaws? Not many. The Redux version may be a bit too long for some. The point of the Redux, I believe, is to be watched by those who watched the original cut. The Redux adds more layers to the story and its themes, but if its your first time watching the film, you may lose your patience and skip ahead to succeeding chapters (the Redux chapters are starred so you know which ones to skip). So, watch the original cut, then watch the Redux, in my opinion.

Either way, watch the film. If you have 3 hours to kick off your day then let this be your reason.

Whereas most war films on vietnam show you the devestation and horror and the people it affects, Mr. Coppola and his skilled use of the camera, not to mention his wonderful and excellently selected crew of skilled actors such as martin sheen, marlon brando and robert duvall bring to life the horror and make you feel it on a personal level as it cuts you up psychologically and gets you to level that you want to turn your head from the screen and forget what you saw - but you can't. You're enthralled by the wonderful photography, the marvelous score by carmine coppola and the frank realism of it all. It makes you think about what a waste war is on civilized society.

Apocalypse Now is quite possibly the best war movie I have ever seen, let alone Vietnam War movie. It's also one of the best films in general I have ever seen. This film is perfectly cast with Marlon Brando as the chilling army colonel gone completely mad and Martin Sheen as the man sent to kill him. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing, going progressively darker and more brutal as it goes on. In summary, if you like movies, especially war movies, you must see this one.

One of the best war films ever made! very atmospheric and brutal in parts, a great story and great cast! In my opinion Francis Ford Coppola best film! i advise everyone to see his movie at least once!

Based on the book "Heart of Darkness" Apocalypse Now is a movie about the darkness and war and how it internally destroys you the longer you stay the and the more involved you are. As you could see in the movie everything got crazier and more chaotic the further they went up the river. This is my second favorite movie about the war in Vietnam after Platoon. A must see.

I saw A.N. on the big screen the week it was released (yes that long ago) when I walked out of the theatre I was amazed that people could still be going about their lives when the world was so full of Horror and Fear. Boy I wasn't prepared for what the 21st century would bring. I think the reason this film didn't get too far was because at the time of release Viet Nam was still very fresh in the American psyche. I love the cinematography, script, acting and imagery of this film. Not for the weak of heart, this rendition of Hearts Of Darkness instills a sense of dispair that will eat you up. It took me a month after seeing this film on the screen to get over it (sorta) I don't think I ever really got over it (sort of like Viet Nam). If you like mind trips, war movies, and dark humour. This is the one for you!

Apocalypse Now is i think the best war movie about the vietnam war ever made. The directing is superb, Francis Ford Coppola realy succeds with giving the audience a dark and mysterious feeling. The acting is great, Martin Sheen does a good job as the main character, Marlon Brando makes a chilling preformance as allways, and there`s nothing wrong with Robert Duvall. The music is great and so is the effects. The movie only gets 4,5 out of 5 because the script can be slow sometimes, the movie has a too open ending, and the movie is MAYBE a bit too long.
