Very morbid and kind of disturbing look at the children shows like Barney. I like this type of dark comedy that makes you look at something that is usually squeaky clean in a different light. Edward Norton and Robin Williams come through with some outstanding performances and make due with an somewhat suspect storyline.

Jon Stewart, on The Daily Show, has made some jokes about his movie career, about the complete flop that Death to Smoochy was. I finally watched it, expecting to barely stomach it because of that. Instead, I actually enjoyed it. It was refreshing, humorous, and actually sad (poor Moochy). How often can you find someone to stick to their guns in the mess of corporate entanglements, bribes, profit and franchising? Smoochy is just a stalwart against that. As for the acting, Edward Norton and Robin Williams were fantastic, as per usual. Both are so talented that they can jump into any role and become it. Moochy was also a surprise. He played the role of Spinner, brain damaged Boxer, to a capital T. Buggy bumper (Vincent)...just as funny and scary. Keener played the strong, sarcastic executive well, bouncing off of Norton and Williams. Dialogue was witty, sharp, funny. All in all, a great watch. Thanks to Danny Devito. His movies tend to have this lovable, quirky, sly quality to them and this movie is no different. I finish the review with two quotes:
"Smoochy is the face of evil." (or maybe just all advertising companies)
"You can't change the world but you can make a dent."
