Beautiful tells the story of Mona Hibbard, a midwestern girl who inadvertely does anything it takes to become the Miss USA. First Mona, who changed her name from Ramona, cheats, sleeps around, and schemes to win local area pageants, for which she wins none. Then in her prime of no end beauty pageants Mona gets pregant and suddenely sees all of her dreams of stardom go away. So her longtime friend Ruby adopts Vanessa and Mona has to lie to still be able to compete in beauty contests. In the middle Ruby, who's a nurse, gets accused on medical murder and Mona and Vanessa go to the Miss USA pageant together. In the end Mona reveals in front of the entire world that she had Ruby when she was 19, and ends up winning the contest. *Sally Field made her directoral debut in this film.
