Thinking about some of my favorite classic scifi movies. One definitely on that list is Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The movie has a wonderfully timeless feel to it, despite it's mid-70s origin. The sense of mystery is just fantastic. Something big is happening, but you don't know what. That sense of foreboding and excitement is quite palpable.

Richard Dreyfuss does a great job as the regular guy who gets obsessed by his close encounter.

It all builds to a rousing finale and the practical special fx hold up remarkably well 30+ years later.

All I remember of this movie is wasted time by looking at a guy seeing some lights and obsessing over them and then finally( I mean really finally, the movie's so long) meeting the strange beings operating the huge UFOs. So all I have to say is...

All I remember of this movie is wasted time by looking at a guy seeing some lights and obsessing over them and then finally( I mean really finally, the movie's so long) meeting the strange beings operating the huge UFOs. So all I have to say is don't watch this!! For some reason, there are like thousands of fans who like to watch 2 hours plus of boredom and bizarreness. Really, it's very boring and weird!! Don't watch this. Actually because there are so many fans out there, you might like it.

It is quite good but not up to the level of some other Spielberg classics.

Classic Steven Spielberg. Richard Dreyfuss is great, especially in the scenes where he's building his own Devil's Tower, and throwing plants into his kitchen window, great scene. Spielberg does an amazing job building the tension when Jillian's son is being abducted. Melinda Dillon is great in that scene and throughout the movie. (She was nominated for Golden Globe). The ending is great, but somewhat disappointing, since Richard Dreyfuss' character leaves his entire family behind to go with these aliens. The special effects are decent, they look really dated in some scenes, but in other scenes they look really good. 10/10.
