Now here is a strange situation. I have no idea what rating to give this movie. I have no idea if i liked it or not. Stanley Kubricks last motion picture is poetic and mysterious, and leaves us with that memory of the possibly greatest director of all time. If cource the directing is superb, it´s incredibly original and he should´ve been awarded for his directing in this movie.The writing is... well,it´s been said before, wierd.Te movie itself is wierd and i like that. It is a new kind of movie, maybe he was on his way of reinventing how movies were made. But saly as everybody knows,he dies very shortly after the release. I don´t know why i give it 4 1/2, maybe because of the amazing directing or that the movie is so mysterious and original.

I think that this film was... strange. It was certainly not Kubrick's best, I prefer still "A Clockwork Orange" or "The Shining" but at some points in this film was kind of interesting, though after a time you can seriously notice that the plot is kind of failing. I still think that the cast was great, though it was not the best.

"Eyes Wide Shut" was truly a long, boring, drawn out film. There was nothing redeeming about this film and to this day, I still have no clue what it is about.

The film gives off a negative impression before you see it, but you have to see it to enjoy what it is. This is a masterful film.

I'm at a loss to explain this movie. No, not a " '2001: A Space Odyssey' what-does-it-mean" loss, but more of a "why did Kubrick make this movie" loss. There's very little of Kubrick's dark, ironic humor, and as the long, drawn out movie finally ends, I wondered what the point to it all was...if the credits didn't say Kubrick, I would have thought it was a Scorsese film!
What an incredibly weak script it is, and full of scenes that should have been cut out entirely. What was the point of Cruise's encounters with the prostitute, for example? I'm all for extended director's cuts, but this thing needed about 40 minutes cut out right, middle, and left. Kubrick's days of genius ended long before he made this swan song, but I can't help but hope that what we see here isn't really what he had in mind when he started it. Oh well, and as my 16 year old son said about it: "dead directors don't get final cut!"
