Bud (Played by John Travolta) is looking for work. He is a long haired scrap of a guy who shows up on his uncle and aunt's doorstep. He finds himself and cleans himself up, thinking his life will be settled. He was working by day and at night he decides to go to Gilleys bar to relax and have some fun. There he meets Sissy (Debra Winger). He gets involved with her and they soon are wed. Things are going okay for them but with both working things are not quite what Bud is used to. Though they know they still love each other they separate. Sissy hooks up with an ex-convict and Bud hooks up with a rich girl who thinks her daddy can buy anything. Some trouble is brewing at Gilleys and when Sissy needs him most Bud comes to her rescue.
