Not as good as Evil Dead 2, but still awesome & great Sam Raimi fun...Lookit that! There's a girl getting molested by an evil tree! >_>

"'The Evil Dead' is one of the greatest horror movies ever made."

The Evil Dead is not only one of the latest horror classics to be pointlessly remade for modern audiences, but without a doubt one of the greatest horror movies ever made, and accomplishes so much with so little. It shows that you don't need a huge budget to make a good film; you just need to know how to make a good film to make a good film, and that's all there is to it. What this film accomplished on such a budget is nothing short of amazing and it accomplished something that could not have with a higher budget.

Five friends venture into the hills and mountains of Tennessee to spend a weekend in an isolated cabin. There they find the Book of the Dead. While searching the basement of the cabin, the students find and play a tape recording of demonic incantations from the book, unwittingly resurrecting the slumbering demons that thirst for revenge. The characters are then possessed one by one.

'The Evil Dead' is gory, scary, well-acted and directed, and even if gore and tree-rape isn't your thing (it clearly wasn't to the film classification boards since it was banned as a video nasty in the early eighties), you should be able to appreciate it for what it is and what it accomplished. A horror must-see.

Of all the B-Horror films that I've seen, nothing comes close to this series. Evil Dead was well thought out for its age and even today, I'd rather watch this film than half the stuff out today.
