When two confused kidnappers mistakely kidnapp a female cook from a rich businessman instead of his wife Flint (Dyan Cannon), they hide the cook in a town near Boston. Her hiding place has been discovered by a wandered cat on which one the cook hangs her bracelet with a call for help. The owner of the cat, a young teenager Patti (Christina Ricci), who is always dressed in black, finds out what is happening when she finds the bracelet on cat's neck, but noone doesn't believes her.
